Lake District town set to welcome new piri piri restaurant

A new restaurant is preparing to open its doors to bring a taste of something different to customers to a Lake District town.

It is expected that Piri Fresco on Keswick’s Main Street will be welcoming diners by the end of March or beginning of April.

The business will be run by Shenuar Hussain, who is originally from Birmingham but has lived in the Lake District for the past 10 years, and his brother Shepiar Hussain will be head chef.

They will be serving up their signature dish of piri piri chicken which comes with a marinade made from a recipe that has taken the family four years to develop.

There will also be other Portuguese influenced dishes that customers can enjoy including fish and steaks.

“Our signature dish is piri piri chicken which is similar to Nando’s, but better!” said Shenuar, who is a keen hiker.

“It’s been a long time searching for a place in Keswick. Eventually I did find it and I’m looking forward to it.

“This place was on the market during lockdown and I did not go ahead with it. It was bought by somebody else and he did not manage to make a go of it and so last year I took it over.

“We are looking to open at the end of March. We have just had a few setbacks but the builders are due to finish soon.”

The premises are being refurbished from top to bottom – there will be dining over two floors – and Shenuar described the decor as being modern, fun, fresh and cosy.

“It’s just coming together and it looks really good,” said Shenuar.

The restaurant will employ three chefs and at the height of the tourist season could employ a staff of 15.
