L&L Property Contractors Snooker League Division One leaders, Workington Golf Club A, crushed closest rivals Flimby Social with a superb 4-1 home victory.

Mark Brasted opened up for the Golf Club A side with a fairly comfortable victory and with team-mate Bryan Walker taking the second frame on the last couple of balls a 2-0 lead was gained.

A break of 31 was enough to help Ryan Ismay win the evening’s most one-sided frame and as an in-form Phil Sorfleet proved victorious in the fourth the Golf Club A lead moved to 4-0.

In the last frame of the match Flimby trailed by nearly 40 points, but with a break of 40 Kevin Kirkham hit the front and in converting this to a win the Social cueist pulled a point back to keep his top spot in the category 1 leading player averages in the process.

Division Two top team Workington Veterans Club A also improved they lead this week with a 5-0 home win over fellow second tier outfit, Workington Golf Club B.

A brilliant break of 43 from Craig Davies not only proved to be enough to take the first frame but also moved the Vets A cueist to the top of the category 2 highest break table.

Another break of 43 in frame two, this time from Vets A captain Kevin Basnett, was ultimately the difference that made it 2-0 and as Mark Tunstall won convincingly in frame three the Vets A lead was stretched to 3-0.

Another Vets A victory in frame four made it 4-0 and with Mark Tatton completing the whitewash with a win in the last he pushed the Vets A side into a healthy 12 point Division Two lead.

Maryport Social recorded another win this week to move up to third in Division Two on the back of a 4-1 result in their home fixture against Workington Veterans Club B.

Ben Scott got Maryport off the mark with a thumping first frame win, however with a victory on the final ball Vets B’s Adam Hodgson gave his team hope in making it 1-1.

Yet another black ball shootout was to decide frame three as Andrew Scott put the Social side 2-1 up and as Gary Miller and Greg Todd won the last two the Maryport outfit put claim to a solid match victory with room to spare.

In another battle between two Division One sides Workington’s Station Road Club ensured they stayed above their opponents in the table as they beat Workington Conservative Club 3-2 away.

Using all his experience Julian Plaza put Cons 1-0 up with a victory in the first, however even though Richard McCarthy made a break of 30 in frame two it wasn’t enough to stop Station Road’s John Teasdale from levelling the match at 1-1.

A superb Chris Hunter victory made it 2-1 to Station Road Club but back came Cons with a Dave Holland win to take the fixture to a decider.

The final frame of the match ebbed and flowed, nevertheless in taking the initiative it was Mark Robertson who steered his team to victory for what was a very satisfying away performance.

Finally, Workington’s United Club A moved into second place in Division One as they defeated Division Two’s, and fellow club rivals, United Club B.

A brilliant re-spotted black ball win for Jamie Flitton gave the B side a massive early boost but with Clive Lister immune to the B teams first frame heroics the A team cueist made it 1-1.

A good victory for Stephen Jackson in frame three put the B side on the brink of a famous match win but with A team leading light, Peter O’Hagan adding a frame winning break of 38 in frame four the match was tied again, this time at 2-2.

In the final frame of the match an edgy encounter ensued, but with Mark Suitor proving to have just that little bit more than his B team opponent the A team player took the decider for a relief-inducing match victory.
