A Cumbrian postman has been hailed as a local community hero after dozens of residents in a village nominated him in a contest.
Family firm Lake District Estates with Cumbria Community Foundation launched a county-wide search asking people to nominate people who they believed made a difference in their local community.
Garry Walker, the postman in Moor Row, near Whitehaven, received dozens of nominations from locals who felt he was superb at supporting them day-to-day.
Not only an exceptional postman, who is friendly, helpful and efficient, but villagers also said he took the time to check on the elderly and venerable neighbours, and showed genuine concern for them .
His presentation took place at Moor Row Primary School, in front of pupils, staff and the local community.
He will enjoy a luxury cream tea for two people on the La’al Ratty.
