Workington Comets’ first meeting of the season at Scunthorpe Scorpions was abandoned without a wheel being turned.
Bothy teams were preparing for the 5.30pm start at the Eddie Wright Raceway when a heavy shower caused an hour’s delay.
The sun did come out, and there was a track walk by referee Barbara Horley and the two captains, who decided between them they would try again at 6.30pm.

But with the engines warming up a second time, heavy shower arrived and quickly the track starting to carry water with the inevitable decision to call it off.

The Comets will be hoping for better weather tonight when they are due to ride the first leg of the Border Trophy at Berwick, with the return at Northside on Sunday (3pm).
