
In the Cumberland County League the race for the Premier Division title is entering its final stages and hotting up.
Aspatria travelled to Whitehaven Miners Social hoping to extend their lead at the top. However, it didn’t go to plan and Miners won the fixture 4-1 thanks to goals from Jamie Thursby (2), Bradley O’Pray and Lewis Park. Malcolm Graham scored the Aspatria goal.
After Aspatria slipped up, it was up to Maryport Athletic to take advantage and they certainly took that chance beating Gosforth 6-1.
Cameron Moir, Joe Hethrington, Ethan Weir, Ciaran Booty, Darren Rule and Ryley Short were all on target for Maryport to help them leap-frog Aspatria into top spot, two points clear of their rivals. Aaron Hart grabbed Gosforth’s goal.
In Division One, the game involving Bransty Rangers and Keswick was controversially abandoned at half time by the referee after concerns about the condition of the playing surface at the Copeland Stadium.
In the Divisional Cup Group A, Workington Reds Development earned a 4-1 win against Whitehaven AFC Reserves. Jack Dunstan bagged himself a brace with Bobby White and Luke Bewsher-Cannon providing the other goals. Shane Tyson was on the score-sheet for Whitehaven.
In the other Group A tie, Mark Campbell and Luke Graham were on target as Cockermouth earned a 2-1 victory against Wigton Harriers with their goal coming from Sean Little.
In Group B of the Division Cup, there were goals galore as Silloth edged past Dearham United 5-4 in a thrilling tie.
A hat-trick from Jackson Slack, Nathan Walsh and a own goal helped Silloth to their third win of the season in all competitions. Harry Smyth (2), Kyle Adlard and Jack Brown were the goal scorers for Dearham.
Elsewhere in Group B, goals from Ben McCarron, Sean Rickerby and Kyle Bayliff helped Whitehaven Miners Social Development beat Mirehouse 3-0.
