A section of the A595 will be closed overnight for roadworks from next month.
Cumberland Council is set to begin evening road improvements on the A595 at Waberthwaite, part of a £14.3 million investment from the Government’s Levelling Up Fund.
The work, carried out by the council’s contractor DSD Construction Limited, will start on Tuesday May 7 and continue until Friday May 24 between 7pm and 5am.
The council’s mprovement programme has already completed work on the A5086 Scallow Farm to Rowrah, A595 Whicham Valley, and A5086 Crossgates to Kirkland.
The work at Waberthwaite will include road network repairs, drainage replacement, and refreshing of road markings.
Cumberland Council said it acknowledged that the project may cause some inconvenience to road users, because the A595 is a major road.
However, it said, it was working with local stakeholders, including parish councils and local members, to mitigate the disruption as best as possible.
From 7pm and 10pm, vehicles will be able to travel through the site with escort assistance but delays of up to 30 minutes may occur.
From 10pm to 5am the entire site will need to be closed with no access for the public.
Access for emergency vehicles, under blue lights, will be maintained.
