A housebuilder has announced it plans to build over 140 homes on the edge of Kendal.
Housebuilder Charles Church, part of Persimmon, said it had exchanged contracts to buy land off Windermere Road.
High Sparrowmire is allocated for housing in the adopted South Lakeland Local Plan, it said.
Charles Church wants to build a mix of one- to five-bedroom properties and said up to 143 would be on the site.
Although details are still to be finalised, the housebuilder said it anticipated 35% of the homes will be delivered as affordable-rent or discount to market value.
A planning application is now being prepared for submission to Westmorland and Furness Council, it said.
