Whitehaven skipper James Newton is set to make his 250th career appearance at Widnes on Sunday.
It will be a momentous day for the Millom-based hooker who is also set to enjoy a testimonial this season after long service to Haven – with a ‘gap’ year at Workington Town.
Haven did well in a pre-season friendly at Widnes and looked on course for a win until two late tries earned the Vikings a draw.
Jonty Gorley;s men are going into the contest on the back of an excellent win at York City Knights two weeks ago, and since then have confirmed a loan extension with Castleford for Dan Hindmarch for another week.
Gorley has named a 20-strong squad and it is: Ross Ainley, Brett Bailey, Jake Carter, Lucas Castle, Rio Corkill, Jamie Doran, Oscar Doran, Will Evans, Edene Gebbie, Guy Graham, Lachlan Hanneghan, Dan Hindmarsh, Ryan King, Jake Maizen, Owen McCarron, James Newton, Joey Romeo, Perry Singleton, Curtis Teare, Huw Worthington.
