The Wooden Boat Gathering is returning to the Lake District next month and will feature some of the most skilled professionals and enthusiasts in the wooden boat building scene for a weekend of talks, tours, boating and socialising.
Windermere Jetty Museum is hosting the gathering, from June 28 to June 30.
The three-day event includes talks from four illuminating speakers – author, forest scientist and photographer Gabriel Hemery, boat-builder and storyteller Gail McGarva, painter and lino cut artist James Dodds and boatbuilder and boatyard owner Abbey Molyneaux.
There will also be a curated selection of beautiful wooden boats to admire on the jetty and guided tours of the award-winning Windermere Jetty Museum.
A buffet meal on the Saturday evening will be an opportunity to share stories and ideas and to engage with the boat building community.
This year’s event will be dedicated in memory of Iain Oughtred, an inspirational figure in the world of small wooden boat design, who died in February.
The Wooden Boat Gathering is run by the Wooden Boatbuilders Trade Association, an organisation that supports wooden boatbuilding in the UK and promotes wood as a sustainable boat building material.
The gathering welcomes boat builders, restorers, makers, designers, photographers, sailors and adventurers, as well as anyone curious to discover more about the world of wooden boats.
