Following the success of last season’s inaugural John Twentyman award, the Cumberland FA has opened nominations for the 2023-24 season.
In full, the John Twentyman Spirt of Cumberland Football Award, was won by Lee Coan of Whitehaven Miners Social FC for his role in creating a family atmosphere at the club.
Nominations for the award are open to all involved with an affiliated Cumberland clubs and can be a coach, a player, an official, a volunteer, a spectator, a team or even a whole club.
Short nominations should outline how they have demonstrated the true spirit of the game and why they merit a John Twentyman Spirt of Cumberland Football Award.
A panel of judges will then meet to select a shortlist of nominees who will each win a £50 Kitlocker voucher.
The nominees will then be put to a public vote, with the scores from the online public vote and the scores from the panel of judges combined (50-50) to help pick a winner who will receive an FA Respect Club Package, including barriers, for their respective club or organisation.
John Twentyman was an honorary member of Cumberland FA until his death in 2022. He was a true football man, who only ever wanted what was best for the game and he is therefore the perfect person to name such awards after.
He epitomised fair play and the spirit of the game through his actions and behaviour throughout a long and distinguished involvement with football in the county.
