Workington Reds scored a comfortable 4-0 win at Coppull United from the West Lancashire League.
It was a decent workout for a Reds side which was made up largely of youngsters and trialists, with Danny Eccles and Brad Hubbold really the only two senior players involved.
Manager Mark Fell gave the majority of his squad the day-off as he regarded this friendly, played at Longridge Town as part of a tournament, as more of a training game ahead of more testing contests.
Fell said: “I didn’t really expect to have only 13 players involved but we had a couple of late cry-offs from potential trialists. It did give me a chance to have a look at some of our development players and trialists.”
Workington’s first goal came from Ben McCarron, a Cleator Moor Celtic youngster who scored regularly for them in the West Lancashire League, as well as on a Sunday for the County Cup winners Parkside.
In the end it was a tap in as he was on hand to finish off a good Workington move in the 15th minute.
Greg McCarragher added the Reds second four minutes later with a diving header from the trialist, Romeo Park a winger released by Carlisle United.
In the second half, Tuesday night’s goal-scorer Josh Galloway added a second to his Reds collection, knocking one in from 22 yards after 61 minutes.
The scoring was completed in the 80th minute by Kai Nugent who curled home a sublime free kick.
