A man has been banned from entering a number of shops in Workington and Carlisle for two years.
John Burgess, 39, of no fixed address, has been handed a criminal behaviour order by magistrates following an application by the Allerdale Neighbourhood Policing Team.
He must not:
- Enter any shops or premises that are members of the Workington Schemelink or who display the Schemelink sign at any time.
- Enter any shops or premises that are members of the Carlisle Shop Safe or who display the Shop Safe sign at any time.
- Enter Next, Workington
- Enter Poundland, Workington
- Enter any TK Maxx
- Enter Savers, Workington
- Enter Whelan Chemist, Workington
The order follows Burgess pleading guilty to two offences of shoplifting on June 6 and June 10.
A police spokesman said: “This order will prevent Burgess from further criminality and help protect business owners and local residents.
“I would encourage anyone who witnesses the terms of such a court order being broken to contact the police immediately. The punishment for breaking the terms of an order can be up to five years in prison.”
Anyone who witnesses John Burgess breaching the terms of his order should contact the police.
