Carlisle United were 3-0 winners in their friendly at Kendal Town last night.
Two goals from recent returnee Charlie Wyke after an opener from summer signing Terrell Thomas secured the victory.
But Kendal put up a good performance and it was a perfect workout for Jimmy Marshall’s side as they prepare for a new life in the Northern League.
Carlisle had a different 11 for each half while Kendal chose to make nine substitutions in the second-half.
Thomas scored the opener after 17 minutes when he showed real determination to reach a Taylor Charters corner and power home a strong header.
Wyke scored his brace within six minutes of each other in the second-half, and both were calm, clinical finishes inside the area.
Home keeper Chris Cheetham had to make a couple of outstanding saves to keep Kendal in the contest, but they also gave their League Two visitors a couple of anxious moments.
Bailey Kenny brought a good save out of new Carlisle keeper Jude Smith and was then just over the top with a drive after a clever link-up with James Bailey.
Carlisle’s newest recruit Archie Davies, fresh from regular football in the League of Ireland, showed-up well on a couple of occasions when Kendal breaks were snuffed-out by the full-back.
Kendal, through a mixture of tiredness and a multitude of changes, weren’t as effective in the second half which was generally dominated by United.
Wyke took his goals well in the 67th and 73rd minutes to ease United to victory.
