
People are invited to find out more about the new plans for the New Road section of the Kendal Flood Risk Management Scheme at two community drop-in events.
They will be held on Tuesday July 16 and Thursday July 18 from 10am to 7pm at the Kendal Flood Scheme Information Hub in Kendal.

A new planning application has been submitted to Westmorland and Furness Council following a number of design improvements since the original planning application was approved in June 2019.
Following feedback from local residents and interest groups on the original plans approved 2019 for the common land, the Environment Agency made further improvements to the flood scheme design. These are the designs which have been submitted to Westmorland and Furness Council.
The new design includes changes to the height of the flood wall along New Road Common, improve the open aspect and accessibility through the area for both the local community and visitors to the town, and includes a safer common access arrangement for the Fairground and for other operational activities.
The application is currently being determined by Westmorland and Furness Planning department.
An information pack, which summarises the options appraisal and subsequent design decisions for a roadside flood wall and integrated flood gates are now available on the Kendal Flood Hub.

An online feedback form is also available for people to give their views on the designs and scheme.
The New Road flood wall complements the stonework and finish of Gooseholme Bridge and the wider flood scheme throughout Kendal, creating and maintaining a safe community green space with access for all.
When completed, the Kendal Flood Risk Management Scheme which will better protect more than 1,920 homes from flooding and 2,250 local businesses directly and indirectly from flooding in Kendal, Burneside, Staveley and Ings.
A spokesman for the Environment Agency said: “These changes to the original design have been made in response to the feedback from communities. We listened, we acted on local people’s requests, and we believe the new design will enhance the town whilst providing better protection to homes and businesses against the very real threat of flooding.
“The two community drop-in events provide an opportunity for people to find out more about the New Road plans and members of the Environment Agency will be available to answer your questions.”
The Kendal Flood Information Hub is at 2 Beezon Road, next to Lidl. It is also open to the public every Tuesday and Thursday, 10am to 4pm.
