An artisan fete is set to return to Distington this summer.

Cumberland Council is hosting the event on Saturday July 27 at Distington Walled Garden following its popularity in previous years

The event will be held between 10am and 4pm and will include several local businesses showcasing their crafts and an outdoor market.

Visitors can expect to find a diverse array of handmade items, ranging from woodcarving and leather goods to soft furnishings and candles.

The new café, based within the surroundings of the Distington Walled Garden, will also be open to visitors for food between 10am and 2pm.

Refreshments – cakes and scones – will be served between 2pm and 3pm.

One of the most popular attractions at the last event was the presence of alpacas and pygmy goats, and the council has confirmed that they will be making a return appearance – and will attend the event until around 2pm.

For a small fee people can also lead the alpacas on a short walk.

Councillor Anne Quilter, Cumberland Council’s executive member for vibrant and healthy places, said: “Previous events at Distington Victorian Walled Garden have been a great success.

“This event that will showcase local businesses and will be a fun-filled day for the whole family, with plenty of entertainment to be enjoyed.

“The Artisan Fete will feature a wide range of stalls catering to the varied interests of visitors, including leather goods, soft furnishings and candles.

“If you’re looking for an event that has something for everyone, look no further. This is an event that offers an incredible experience that you won’t want to miss.”

The fete is free to enter. For more information about the event, please contact Cumberland Council by calling 07920 499232.

Distington Walled Garden is owned by Cumberland Council.

The Victorian walled garden was formerly part of Distington Hall, and is now filled with a lavender maze, fruit trees trained over arches, a lawned area and seating areas.
