After Sunday’s play was washed out, Cumbria got to grips with Cambridgeshire at Kendal for a fluctuating day’s play.
Cumbria invited their visitors to take first use of the wicket and it looked a sound move when they had half of the team back in the pavilion for 73.
But a stubborn sixth wicket stand of 54 frustrated the home attack with the experienced Wayne White the main stumbling block.
The former Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Lancashire all-rounder had opened and he was last out for a patient, but vital 87 as the innings closed on 156 off 65.2 overs.
Only Lee Thomason (22), who batted over an hour and a half with White in their sixth wicket partnership offered any serious resistance.
Sam Sharp eventually eventually bowled Thomason to claim his fifth wicket – all in the top order – and he finished a 22-overs stint with 5-48.
Freddie Fallows, who crashed a quick-fire century in the last game, showed his prowess with the ball as he came on at the end and in ten overs took 3-11.
Young Carlisle spinner Josh Stirling claimed the prize wicket of White in a short stint which brought him 1-1.
The Cumbria response had a similar look to it as at the close they were 55-4 in 34 overs with opener Evan Williams 35no and the rest out for very little.
Today is the final day and it looks as though it will need a couple of declarations to set up the chance of a positive result one way or the other.
