New face to join Barrow Raiders for visit of Sheffield Eagles

Barrow Raiders will have a new face in their squad for the visit of Sheffield Eagles as they resume their Betfred Championship campaign.

Reagan Sumner from Wigan appears in the Raiders 21-man squad for the first time, joining young Warriors team-mates Ryan Brown who is returning to the group for a fourth time.

Sumner has been recruited to take the place of Andrew Bulman after the former Whitehaven winger limped off at Batley last week with a strained calf.

A product of the Wigan St Jude’s club, the 20-year-old Sumner has established himself in Wigan’s reserves side and trains regularly with the first team.

The significance of Brown’s return is that after playing four games he will be considered available for the final game of the season if required.

Shane Toal and Tom Walker also return to the squad but Bulman, Ryan Johnston and Finn McMillan are the absentees from last week.

The Raiders were convincingly beaten 54-0 at Sheffield in April  but the Eagles, who currently lie second in the Championship table will be looking to improve and make amends for a surprise home defeat to Swinton Lions last week.

Mark Aston has named his 21-man squad and makes three changes with Alex Foster, Mitch Clark and Ryan Millar returning and back into contention to replace Bayley Liu, Aaron Murphy and Lewis Peachey.

That’s not the only action on display at the Northern Competitions Stadium this Sunday, with the Barrow Ladies’ clash against Leeds Rhinos forming the first part of a double-header.

Barrow squad: Luke Broadbent, Ryan Brown, Brett Carter, Matt Costello, Luke Cresswell, Ellis Gillam, Delaine Gittens-Bedward, James Greenwood, Blain Marwood, Kevan Rothwell, Ryan Shaw, Razor Silva, Aaron Smith, Jarrad Stack, Reagan Sumner, Shane Toal, Brad Walker, Tom Walker, Tom Wilkinson, Josh Wood, Greg Worthington.

Sheffield squad: Matty Marsh, Ben Jones-Bishop, Kris Welham, Matty Dawson-Jones, Cory Aston, Eddie Battye, Vila Halafihi, Tyler Dickinson, Connor Bower, Joel Farrell, Titus Gwaze, Jack Hansen, Evan Hodgson, Blake Broadbent, Mitch Clark, Izaac Farrell, Ryan Johnson, Kyle Wood, Alex Foster, Jesse Sene-Lefao, Ryan Millar.
