Kendal Town were moved against their wishes from the North West Counties to the Northern League – after just missing last season’s play-offs.
It did not go down well, and there were initial fears it would wreck the club’s prospects after they had worked hard to turn things around over the last two years.
In the end, though, it was an indication from manager Jimmy Marshall that he was happy to stay, and the fact that the majority of the players were committed to playing away in the north-east, that galvanised the club again for the new challenge.
Cumbria Crack’s John Walsh asked chairman Michael O’Neill how he was feeling about the move, the start of the new season and the successful pre-season of six wins in seven games.
