Walney Musical Theatre Company’s pre-publicity for Legally Blonde The Musical

Issues found with Barrow’s Forum have forced an amateur dramatics company to cancel its show.

A routine inspection of the venue yesterday, Thursday July 25, identified an issue which needed more investigation.

Walney Musical Theatre Company is putting on Legally Blonde The Musical at the Forum, but it had to be cancelled as the investigation could not be carried out in time.

The Forum said: “Unfortunately, we have had to take the difficult decision to cancel the performance of Walney Musical Theatre Company’s production.

“We apologise for the inconvenience and can appreciate your understandable disappointment.

“We never take the decision to cancel a show lightly, but the safety of the performers, customers and our staff has to be our absolute priority.

“Members of our box office team are currently ringing customers to make them aware of the situation and we will provide further updates in due course.”

The society said: “We’re devastated and will explore options with The Forum to rearrange this performance and hope and pray that the rest of the week can go ahead as planned.

“We are truly sorry but this decision has been taken for us – there’s nothing we can do.”

The Forum has confirmed that asbestos has been found backstage, and although no evidence suggests a risk to health, it has closed the theatre as a precaution.
