A 16-year-old boy died after getting into difficulty in Windermere.
A search was launched near Brockhole after the youngster went missing after 5pm on July 24. He was found at around 11.45pm that day.
An investigation into the incident has been launched by the police and Health and Safety Executive.
The Lake District National Park Authority said the boy had been at Brockhole visitor centre before entering the lake and losing his life.
Coastguard rescue teams were among those who searched for the teen.
Furness Coastguard said: “We were tasked Wednesday July 24 along with our colleagues from Arnside, Maryport, Duddon Inshore Rescue, Windermere Lake Wardens, Windermere Lake Rangers and other emergency services to support Cumbria police with an incident on Windermere.
“Unfortunately a teenage boy was recovered from the water later that evening and our thoughts are with the family and friends.
“With the weather getting warmer we would like to advise everyone to be aware of their surroundings and the depth of water they are in and to be vigilant over other people around them and remember, just because the air temperature is warm it doesn’t mean the water is too, take time to become accustomed to the water temperature to help prevent cold water shock.
“If in danger on the coast or one of the four navigable lakes, Windermere, Coniston, Ullswater or Derwentwater then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
