BAE Systems helps South Cumbrian charities to boost funds

Furness and South Cumbrian charities can boost their funds by applying to a BAE Systems employee scheme that gives thousands of pounds to regional causes every year.

The company’s Submarines business runs a Give As You Earn (GAYE) initiative, which is now seeking more applicants for this year’s funding.

GAYE is a salary sacrifice scheme to which local registered charities can apply. The applications window opened in January and the deadline for this year’s applications is Monday September 30 2024.

Under the programme, BAE Systems’ employees are invited to donate a regular small amount directly from their salary and more than £30,000 was donated to 33 local charities last year.

Lesley Dixon, commercial director and GAYE scheme board member, BAE Systems’ Submarines business, said: “This is a fantastic way for our employees to support local registered charities and to recognise the invaluable work they carry out.

“We are keen to hear from any local organisations who may be able to make good use of the financial support that our initiative offers.”

The funding cannot be spent on wages or running costs so most successful applications are for specific projects or funding for equipment.

To apply, local registered charities need to complete and submit an application form, providing their charity number and the amount of money they are hoping to secure, alongside a covering letter outlining how the money will be used.
