A series of road closures are planned for the A595 and A5086 in West Cumbria so repairs can be carried out.

Cumberland Council said the project would take place across several areas, including Calderbridge, Frizington, Waberthwaite and Gosforth.

Some work has started this week and the repairs are being carried out at the contractor’s expense following issues identified with its original work.

Work will continue until Saturday August 29.

During overnight sections of the project, vehicles will be able to pass through using a convoy system between 8pm and 10pm, although delays of up to 30 minutes may occur. Full road closures will then be in place from 10pm to 5am.

During daytime work, each section will be carried out using either traffic management or, where necessary, full road closures.

Signed diversions will be in place and access for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

A595 – Calderbridge

Daytime traffic lights have been operating this week and are due to be removed today, Friday July 17.

An overnight road closure is planned for today, Friday July 17, from 8pm. Convoy access will operate until 10pm and a full closure from 10pm to 5am.

A595 – Fell Lane to Eskholme

The A595 from Fell Lane to Eskholme will feature daytime traffic lights from Monday August 17 to Friday August 21.

A595 – Waberthwaite

Traffic lights from Monday August 24 to Thursday August 27. An overnight road closure will be in place on Friday August 28, beginning at 8pm with convoy access until 10pm and a full closure from 10pm to 5am.

A595 from Drigg junction to Muncaster

Traffic lights will operate from Tuesday September 1 to Friday September 4, starting at 7.30am. Phased road closures will run from Tuesday September 1 to Saturday September 12, with closures beginning at 8pm, convoy access until 10pm and a full closure from 10pm to 5am.

A595 from Newmill to Gosforth

Overnight road closures from Monday September 14 to Saturday September 19. The closures will begin at 8pm with convoy access until 10pm and a full closure from 10pm to 5am.

A5086 – Frizington

Daytime road closures will be in place from 7.30am to 7pm from Monday August 3 to Saturday August 15.

A5086 – Parkside

Daytime road closures will run from 7.30am to 7pm on Thursday August 20 and Friday August 21.

Karl Melville, Cumberland Council’s assistant director for highways and transport, said: “When issues are identified with highway work, it is important that they are put right. This remedial work is being carried out at the contractor’s expense, ensuring there is no additional cost to Cumberland residents.

“The repairs will help maintain the long-term condition of the network, improve safety and provide smoother journeys for everyone who uses these roads.

“We have planned the programme carefully to minimise disruption wherever possible, including carrying out much of the work overnight, and we thank residents, businesses and road users for their patience while these improvements are completed.”
