Marathon Man Gary McKee aims to run 100 miles in 24 hours this weekend.
The event will take place in Cleator Moor and is in memory of his friend, local man Brian Telford, who died recently.
Brian was a long-standing fan of Wath Brow Hornets and was a committee member, fundraiser and sponsor.
Gary will be lacing up his running shoes in aid of Hospice at Home West Cumbria.
Gary will be setting off at 9am tomorrow, Saturday, August 24, from St John’s in the Hall on Crossfield Road, Cleator Moor.
He will be running 12.5-mile loops every three hours, returning to and setting off from St John’s in the Hall.
Gary said: “Hospice at Home West Cumbria cares for local people 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. I ran 365 marathons in 2022, so now’s the time to run for 24 hours. Hospice care doesn’t stop in a 24-hour period, so why should I?”
Gary’s team of supporters and volunteers have arranged 24 hours of fun and activity at the hall which includes Elwyn Evans’ Just for Fun Dog Show, prize bingo, a quiz and an open mic night, hosted by the Crown.
Hayley McKay, director of funding & communications at Hospice at Home West Cumbria, said: “This is another amazing challenge Gary has set himself and we are so very grateful for his support and that of the local West Cumbrian community.
“The day at St John’s in the Hall will be jam packed with activity and it would be fantastic if people can come out and support Gary at each three-hour interval.”
Wath Brow Hornets’ gym will be doing a cycling challenge throughout the event as well.
