Carlisle United Football Club has announced the signing of midfielder Jordan Jones on a three-year deal.

Jones, 29, came through the youth ranks at Middlesbrough. He made his first set of appearances in senior football during loan spells with Hartlepool and Cambridge.

He then joined Kilmarnock in 2016, where he enjoyed an excellent three-year stay with the club. He turned out 146 times for Killie, scoring 12 goals and providing 24 assists.

His performances then earned him a move to Scottish Premiership giants, Rangers.

The midfielder spent two years there, going out on loan to Sunderland during that time. Jordan then joined Wigan Athletic on a permanent deal in 2021. He also spent time back in Scotland on loan deals to St Mirren and former club, Kilmarnock.

Jones appeared 53 times in total for the Latics, he scored three times and provided 11 assists.

Manager Paul Simpson said: “He’s a great signing for us, he’s a really positive, attack-minded player who I’m hoping will bring some creativity, assists and add some goals to our team.

“He’s played at a high level, and had a really good career to date and I’m hoping he can continue that at Carlisle United.

“We’ve had to be patient with it. Like all players, he wants to play at the highest level possible. He’s had some really interesting things going on for himself, so we’ve kept in contact for probably five or six weeks.

“Thankfully over the last few days, we’ve been able to get something secured. We’ve been able to bring him into the club ahead of teams abroad and teams in League One.

“I think it’s a really big addition for us as a football club.”
