Midweek football action

There was another round of midweek meetings in the Cumberland County League last night although three Premier Division matches were victims of the wet British summer.

Aspatria v Unisun Athletic, Cleator Moor Celtic Reserves v Keswick and Wigton Harriers v Maryport Athletic all had to be called off.

The only surviving game in the Premier Division saw Whitehaven Miners Social host Cockermouth and it ended in a 3-2 victory for the visitors.

Brett Smith and Lewis Park had put Miners 2-0 before goals from Luke Graham, Milo Cookeanda last minute screamer from Ben Rathbone – who also rides for Workington Meteors Speedway team-  gave Cockermouth the three points 

In Division One all five arranged matches went ahead when Whitehaven AFC Reserves were the high scorers of the evening after they beat Whitehaven Miners Social Development 7-1.

Carl Denver (3), Liam King (2), Tom Martin and Joe Martin all netted for Whitehaven while Miners goal came from Josh Finlay.

Bransty Rangers beat Windscale Reserves 4-1 thanks to goals from Spike Canavan (2), Chris Armstrong and Harvey Law. Sam Tallantire netted Windscale’s goal.

Workington Juniors claimed their second win of the season thanks to a 3-2 victory against Mirehouse with Macauley Sharp, Niall MeltonandChad Grisdale providing the goals to help Juniors collect the three points. The Mirehouse goal scorers were Ryan Smith and Nicky McAllister.

Unisun Athletic Youth Development remain unbeaten after another win, this time beating Dearham United 3-1. Charlie Thomson is now on six goals for the season after he scored a brace for Unisun with an own goal completing their tally. Callum Foy was on target for Dearham.

Max Pickering and Nathan Kemp were on target for Cockermouth Reserves as they beat Silloth 2-1 with their goal coming courtesy of Kris Nichol.

  • Cockermouth Reserves v Windscale Reserves

  • Workington Juniors v Bransty Rangers
