Whitehaven McDonald’s to close for over a month

Whitehaven McDonald’s is closing for over a month.

The fast food restaurant closed yesterday for a large-scale refurbishment and is aiming to reopen in the second week of October this year.

Work is currently being carried out at the site as part of the chain’s nation-wide ‘Convenience of the Future’ programme.

The programme aims to modernise McDonald’s restaurants across the UK and make customer experiences quicker, easier and more convenient.

Improvements made to the Whitehaven restaurant will see the latest technology introduced to the store alongside a redesign of the kitchen, staff and customer spaces – as a result, it will also create 25 new jobs.

Other key features of the refurbishment programme include:

  • The removal of the front counter to ease congestion around self-service touchscreens and provide more seating for customers
  • A courier waiting area for partners such as Deliveroo and FoodHub
  • A larger assembly area in the kitchen to allow staff to serve food faster and more efficiently
  • Revamped staff break spaces that offer more natural light

Victor and Karen Arciniega who own and operate Whitehaven McDonald’s, said: “McDonald’s is always looking into ways to improve the customer experience and by investing in these changes in our restaurant, we’ll be doing just that.

“We are proud to say that the investment will also create 25 new roles for local people. We can’t wait to welcome our customers back into the restaurant to experience the changes first hand.”
