The musical director of the 2012 London Olympic Games opening ceremony will be performing in Cumbria later this month.

Robin A Smith will return to The Gather in Ennerdale on September 21.

He trained at the Royal College of Music as a pianist, composer, conductor, arranger and has worked with some of the greatest names in the music industry and conducted a range of orchestras

His achievements include:

  • Grammy Award Nominee 2022 for best arrangement
  • Tubular Bells – Re-imagined – Arranger, performer and Celebration Tours – UK, Europe, New Zealand, Australia, Middle East
  • Stjepan Hauser – Hauser 1 & 2 – Arranger – London Symphony Orchestra
  • Goldie – Subjectives – Lady Blackbird, Sunlight – Composer/piano
  • Mike Oldfield – Re-imagined for Piano – Arranger, performed
  • Elvis Presley – If I Can Dream with the RPO – Arranger, conductor, piano
  • The 2 Cellos – Score with the LSO – Arranger, conductor, programming

Robin said: “I first came to The Gather to play in duo with my great friend and world-famous saxophonist Snake Davis. Snake is a great fan of The Gather and Ennerdale.

“Upstairs@TheGather is such a delightful music venue, small and intimate with wonderful friendly Cumbrian audiences.

“The team and their audiences look after musicians well and you feel an honorary Cumbrian. I just love coming back! I’ve actually seen a red squirrel for the first time in my life!”

Peter Maher, of the Gather, said: “There was such a demand from our audiences to hear Robin play again that he came back last year for a solo performance.  Again, his relaxed style and wonderful playing greatly impressed.

“In our annual collaboration with Muncaster Castle, Robin performed as part of a gala evening of fine dining and music this spring.”

Robin will play a selection of classical, jazz, improvisation, songs and reserves a space to play audience requests.
