
There was a mixture of league and cup matches in the Cumberland County League at the weekend.
The Conway Cup returned for the 2024/25 season with round one and Premier Division outfit Unisun Athletic thrashed Division One side Mirehouse 9-0.
Goals from Shane Dorward (2), Tom Hill (2), Jake Nicholson, Tom McDonald, Benn Atkinson, Dillon Burns and Nathan Johnstone helped to put Unisun into round two.
In the other round one fixture, Division One outfit Workington Juniors, who were making their debut in the competition, welcomed reigning Premier Division champions Maryport Athletic to the Ranch.
It was higher ranked Maryport who advanced into the next round with a 2-1 win thanks to Darren Rule and Ethan Weir finding the back of the net. Chad Grisdale was on the scoresheet for Workington Juniors who certainly put up a good fight.
In the Premier Division, top of the table Cockermouth extended their 100% record by beating Keswick 2-0 thanks to a brace from Luke Graham.
Wigton Harriers notched their second win of the season with a 3-0 victory against Cleator Moor Celtic Reserves with Mike Riding netting twice and Louie Elliot also scoring.
Aspatria grabbed their first three points of the campaign as they beat Whitehaven Miners Social 3-2. Dale Gebbie, Liam Parker and Dom Harrison all found the back of the net for Aspatria and Lewis Park and Brad O’Pray scored for Miners who are still waiting for their first points.
In Division One, Dearham United were the big scorers after they put eight goals past Windscale Reserves. Jack Brown helped himself to a hat trick with the other goals been provided by Lewis Manchester, Danny Dryden, Callum Foy, Alfie Green and Matthew Oglanby.
Whitehaven Miners Social Development edged past Cockermouth Reserves 1-0 thanks to a Ben McCarron goal.
Unisun Athletic Youth Development and Bransty Rangers drew 2-2. David Nelson and Musse Yohannes scoring for Unisun and Harvey Law and Liam O’Pray both found the back of the net for Bransty.
The match between Silloth and Whitehaven AFC Reserves also ended in a draw, this time 1-1. Dan Jeffrey scored for Silloth and Paul Wright got his name on the scoresheet, netting for Whitehaven.
