If the new sporting director was at Brunton Park he had plenty of food for thought as Carlisle United lost 3-2 at home to Fleetwood Town.
Both teams had been relegated together from League One and clearly Carlisle still have to adapt to life in the bottom tier.
The Blues have lost five out of six game and sit third bottom, just a point clear of the drop zone so when the new sporting director and head coach are appointed in a re-structured management team there’s a lot of work to be done.
Fleetwood were winning away for the first time this season but they are in a solid 12th place with a game in hand of those above them.
Danny Mayor had put Fleetwood on their way after ten minutes when he skipped round a weak defensive challenge before drilling the ball into the bottom corner.
That lead was doubled seven minutes later when Ronan Coughlan fastened onto a pass from Mackenzie Hunt and lashed a shot into the top corner.
Carlisle were stunned but had the chance to get back in the game just before half-time when Jordan Jones was brought down in the area and Charlie Wyke netted his first goal of the season from the spot.
That quickly became two as seven minutes after the re-start Wyke collected a through ball from Dylan McGeouch and went on to drill the ball under keeper David Harrington for the equaliser.
It was a great tonic for Carlisle and with the momentum they should have gone on but it didn’t happen and on 70 minutes when a bouncing ball fell kindly for him Mayor fired through a cluster of bodies to win it for Fleetwood.
