A Lake District hotel would create more jobs if plans to revamp and and extend it get the go-ahead.
North East-based Inn Collection Group has applied for permission from the Lake District National Park Authority to revamp The Wordsworth Hotel in Grasmere.
The hospitality firm – which also owns the Swan on Keswick Road – acquired The Wordsworth Hotel for an undisclosed sum in 2022.
In the heart of the village, the 38-room hotel originally opened as the Rothay Hotel in 1874.

The building was originally constructed as a hunting lodge for the Earl of Cadogan and has welcomed VIP guests throughout its years, including former US President Woodrow Wilson.
The Inn Collection Group wants to demolish existing buildings attached to the kitchen areas and build an extension to form a cellar with a service room and additional guest rooms.

The proposed work also includes the removal of the ground floor function room and swimming pool to reconfigure into additional guest rooms. It wants to remodel staff accommodation to improve facilities.

The hotel chain has also applied to provide more space for outdoor dining.
The proposals will create more jobs, from 20 full-time and nine part-time employees, to 35 full-time and 15 part-time employees.
