Newly-appointed head coach Mike Williamson got off to a great start in his first game in charge as Carlisle United won 2-0 at Swindon Town.
It was their first victory in six games and only their second three-pointer of the season, but they stay third bottom.
Swindon had started the sharper and Carlisle keeper Harry Lewis had to make two early saves to keep his side on terms, the second to deny George Cox at close range was a particularly good one.
Carlisle took time to grow into the game and they took the lead three minutes before half-time when Sam Lavelle nodded in Cameron Harper’s corner at the near post.
Swindon almost got back on terms two minutes later but Will Wright saw a circling free lick flash inches wide.
There was still time in the ten minutes added on at the end for Jon Mellish to go close with a far post header while Cox wasted a good opportunity by firing into the side netting.
Carlisle scored their second goal on 72 minutes when Luke Armstrong got enough on his side-footed effort to have keeper Jack Bycroft struggling to get a hand on it but watch it trickling over the line off the post.
Former Carlisle forward Danny Butterworth almost pulled one back late on but saw his effort from 25 yards strike the post.
