Workers at a plant which provides energy and steam for the Sellafield site in West Cumbria are set to strike later this month.
Members of the Unite union who work at the Fellside CHP Plant for Altrad Services, will be taking industrial action from October 10 to 15, October 17 to 22 and October 24 to 29.
They claim that Altrad Services, has reneged on previously agreed pay deals.
Altrad is responsible for industrial services, like painting and scaffolding, at the Fellside site, which is run by PX Limited.
This week, Altrad Services union members said they were originally advised and agreed to a 11.3% increase in January.
Prior to that during the cost of living crisis, Altrad paid an additional 4% salary increase which staff were told was permanent, the union said, but the firm had only now given members a 7.3% rise, rather than the agreed 11.3% – the reduction being the same as the cost of living increase.
Unite regional officer Ryan Armstrong added: “Strike action will inevitably cause significant disruption across Sellafield but this dispute is entirely of Altrad’s own making ad the solution is entirely in its own hands.
“Our members are rightly furious at how they’ve been treated.”
Built in 1993, the plant provides critical process steam to the Sellafield nuclear reprocessing facility and exports electricity to Sellafield and the National Grid.
- In August, Unite members working for PX Limited at Fellside, took part in 15 days of industrial action short of strikes but on August 22, nearly 40 workers voted to accept pay rises of between 6% and 7.5% from May 2024. Previously, the workers, including shift managers, operators, electrical and instrumentation technicians and administrators, had been offered deals of between 3% and 4.5%, Unite said.
