A special charter train service which provides much needed funds for a charity working to protect the River Lune and several other watercourses helped raise £1,400 for the organisation.
The Lune Rivers Trust Special travelled from Carnforth to Carlisle with passengers experiencing haulage by diesel before the train returned via the Cumbrian coastal route with a steam locomotive in charge.
“West Coast Railways generously support us by renaming one of their regular excursions after the trust,” Tim Pitt, trust manager said.

“We’re still a small environmental charity so the money donated is welcome.”
The charity runs a series of projects including a campaign with United Utilities to draw up ways of bringing environmental improvements whilst supporting farm businesses.
The trust is responsible for the maintenance of 1,300 square kilometres of land from Newbiggin-on-Lune to Lancaster and Morecambe.
