Police are appealing for information about an unidentified body recovered from a Workington beach.
The badly decomposed remains were found near the Slagbanks on September 30 2023 by two walkers at around 6.20pm.
The man was wearing blue jeans over burgundy coloured jogging bottoms and underwear with the wording ORIGINAL BRAND on the waistband.
The body had clearly been in the water for a significant period of time.
The man was white and believed to be over 6ft.
No documents of identification were recovered from the body or clothing.
Investigations were conducted in an effort to identify the man, including via DNA analysis and cross-referencing with the UK Missing Persons Database.
However, no matches were identified.
Detective Inspector Duncan Brooker said: “A significant number of enquiries have been made in an effort to learn the identity of the man. However, at this time, he remains unidentified.
“I am aware that we do not have a great deal of information with which to share with the public for them to assist us in our efforts, however we are appealing for anyone who does have information – who thinks that some of the details mentioned could relate to a missing person in their own life – to come forward.”
Anyone with information relating to this incident can report online at www.cumbria.police.uk/report-it or call 101.
An inquest is due to reconvene at Cockermouth Coroners’ Court today.
