Carlisle’s MP has been appointed to an influential Parliamentary select committee.

Julie Minns has been appointed to Parliament’s Energy Security and Net Zero Committee, to scrutinise the work of the Government in responding to the cost of energy and the climate crisis.

She said: “I am honoured to be a part of this crucial committee, at a time when the UK’s energy security has never been more important.

“This new Labour government has promised to reduce household energy bills, which have contributed significantly to the cost of living crisis we have inherited from the Tories.

“Under the Conservatives, the broken energy market let customers down. Labour has committed to implementing a much tougher system of regulation that puts consumers first and attracts the investment needed to cut bills.

“This is a time of exciting change in how our energy is generated and delivered, and I look forward to scrutinising the policy around emerging technologies to ensure Britain is seen as the place to invest in and develop the next generation of energy technologies.”

Ms Minns’ appointment comes as legislation to establish Great British Energy continues its passage through Parliament. GB Energy will deliver energy security and lower bills.
