A Carlisle candle firm has teamed up with Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice.
Victorian Candle Co is supporting the hospice by creating a Light Up A Life candle and donating £1.50 from each one sold to the charity.
Each year, Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw host its Light Up A Life appeal to celebrate the lives of those who are missed while raising vital funds.
The hospice relies on the generosity of the local community to help to fund the care and support provided to local families.
Suzanne Garbarino, head of clinical services at Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, said: “We are thrilled that the Victorian Candle Co has chosen to support the hospice in such a generous way.
“The donations raised by the sales of these special candles will help so many patients, their families, friends and carers. As the festive season dawns, more families and local people will be relying on the hospice for care and support, it is only thanks to the kindness of those who chose to support the hospice that we can continue caring for all those who need us.”
The candle allows customers to write the name of the loved one they miss on the candle and light it in their memory. It also features its new lavender and camomile scent, said to evoke a sense of calm and healing. The candles will be available throughout the festive season.
Ru Blackett, co-founder of The Victorian Candle Co, said: “We are incredibly honoured to work with such an inspirational local hospice, who have played an important role within North Cumbrian healthcare for more than 30 years.
“Our goal for this special candle collaboration is to bring peace to those who have suffered losses, and allow them to light a candle in memory of loved ones.”
The candles can be bought directly on the Victorian Candle Co website, from the hospice charity shops or from the hospice itself.
They will also be available at the upcoming Light Up A Life events on Sunday November 24 at the hospice from 4.30pm to switch on the Christmas lights and Friday December 6 at Carlisle Cathedral to remember loved ones at a carol service from 7.30pm.
