A West Cumbrian youngster has been praised for his efforts to raise cash for charity.
Michael Moore, a year nine pupil at Netherhall School in Maryport, decided to raise cash for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
He and his dog Buddy took up the association’s annual challenge of completing a 75-mile dog walk this month and set himself an £150 target.
Michael has already smashed his target.
Deputy headteacher Mark Bailey said: “Michael is a super young man and a credit to Netherhall School and absolutely lives up to our school’s motto, which is to be part of an ambitious, caring community.
“He is a brilliant young man and his peers are proud of his superb fundraising efforts so far. Having already raised £150, he has already been awarded the MNDA’s T-shirt and medal for his fantastic fundraising efforts.
“On speaking to Michael to congratulate him on his efforts, he told me he was extremely proud of his achievement so far and that he was grateful to his parents, family and friends for their support with his fundraising.
“He also told me that while he was delighted to have already reached his target, he didn’t want to end his efforts with the £150 already raised, and that he wants to carry on fundraising to secure as much money as possible.
“Netherhall School salutes the efforts of this fantastic young man who is representing the very best of the magnificent student body of our school, proving once again what an exceptional group of young people they are. I
“I would like to congratulate Michael and Buddy on behalf of all at Netherhall School for their fine efforts in supporting the association and wish them continued success with the dog walk challenge for the rest of the month. Well done on a superb effort so far, Michael and keep up the good work!”
