Overnight road closures on the A595 are due to restart today.

Part of a £14.3m Government funded scheme, work is being carried out on the stretch from Holmrook to Muncaster

The first phase, from Holmrook to Ravenglass, began on Monday September 30 and was then suspended for the half-term holiday.

The second phase, from Ravenglass junction to Muncaster Castle is due to start today, Monday, November 4 and last until Tuesday, November 12.

Phase three, from Holmrook to Drigg junction is due to start on Wednesday November 13 until Tuesday November 19.

Work will include road network repairs, drainage replacement, traffic sign replacement and refreshing of road markings. The work will last for around seven weeks, weather permitting.

The road will be closed from 7pm and 5am, Mondays to Saturdays, for the duration of the project. From 5am to 7pm, two-way traffic lights will be in operation.

Overnight, vehicles may pass through the site with escort assistance from 7pm to 10pm, though delays of up to 30 minutes may occur.

From 10pm to 5am, the road will be fully closed to vehicles, though pedestrian access will be maintained.

The work will be carried out by contractor DSD Construction Limited on behalf of Cumberland Council.

Access for emergency vehicles under blue lights and pedestrians will be maintained at all times.
