Get your skates on for first-ever ice rink on shores of Ullswater

Another Place, The Lake invites visitors to get their skates on with the opening of the first-ever ice rink on the shores of Ullswater this winter.

Gliding across the ice. Fells dusted with snow. Lights in the trees. This December, a 200sq m sweep of ice overlooking Ullswater will transform the Another Place gardens into a wintry scene steeped in festive cheer.

Open seven days a week for guests, visitors, school and community groups, the ice skating rink will be the highlight of Another Place’s festive celebrations.

A marquee will give shelter from showers – leaving the views across the lake and fells uninterrupted.

After working up an appetite, skaters can de-boot before wandering through the grounds to The Glasshouse to try our festive cocktails and authentic woodfired pizzas.

Hot chocolates and spice-infused mulled wine and cider will warm cold hands, and summon the Christmas spirit beside glowing firepits.

There is the option to skate and stay; or skate and swim and dine for people more local to Another Place, which includes a three-course dinner in Ramspbeck and time in Swim Club.

All overnight stays include full use of Swim Club, Kids’ Zone supervised sessions, an ice-skating session, and wetsuits and hot showers in the sheep shed.

From family-friendly sessions to accessible sessions and adults-only hours, dedicated, inclusive time slots will mean everyone’s included.

Steadying penguin and polar bear skate aids will be available to help children gain confidence on the ice.

For those wanting full immersion in the elements, the cedar-scented warmth of the Fellside Sauna and stargazing from the outdoor hot tub beckon.

And for the brave, invigorating guided wild swimming in the lake awaits with resident cold water swimming expert Colin Hill.

Beneath the branches of a towering Christmas tree, festive market stalls will further bring the Another Place gardens to life.

Over three weekends, starting from December 6, the markets will sell local produce, handmade crafts and decorations – ready for filling stockings and decking halls.

Judi Blakeburn, Another Place CCO, said: “The ice rink is a first for Another Place. To be able to skate with family and friends in the open air against the backdrop of Ullswater will be such a unique and memorable experience for our guests and visitors this winter.

“Combined with our 16ft Nordmann Christmas tree, lights and decorations, festive market stalls and outdoor Fellside Sauna, we’re excited to bring our elemental take on a winter festival to the lakeshore.”
