Former Barrow Raiders forward Ellis Gillam is to go on trial for two months with Toulouse Olympique.
The 27-year-old forward will start training with the French club in December and at the end of January Olympique will make a decision on whether to offer him a full-time contract.
The south Cumbrian played 71 times for Barrow in his three years with the club but decided to leave at the end of last season to look for full-time opportunities.
Gillam started his career in Warrington Wolves’ academy, but did not make a first team appearance before joining Whitehaven.
He went on to play 55 times for the Recreation Ground club before moving to home-town club Barrow in 2022.
He also had a 14-game loan stint with Rochdale Hornets in 2019.
Gillam said: “I would like to thank Sylvain (Houles, Toulouse head coach) and all those involved for giving me the opportunity to prove myself in such a great club.
“I can’t wait to meet my new team-mates and start training.”
Olympique boss Houles said: “We have been playing against Ellis for many seasons and we have always liked him.
“He is a pillar who plays long minutes, a hard worker and someone who wants to succeed at the highest level, so we decided to give him his chance over the next two months.”
