A new social enterprise company has been set up to oversee and plan some of the new developments in Maryport.
Maryport Horizons CIC is calling for volunteers to help it manage public and events spaces, as they become available, to attract visitors and help revitalise the local economy.
The first projects would involve putting together a business plan for the revamped Carlton Cinema and the new outdoor events space being developed near the aquarium.
Board member Catherine Eve said: “We have seen a lot of development in Maryport in recent months, including refurbished shop fronts, the development of Christ Church into a home for the maritime museum, a new skate park on the prom, renovations at The Carlton and more.

“Maryport Horizons will build on this to attract further community investment with the aim of improving the lives of those living in Maryport and the surrounding areas, and make Maryport a thriving destination for residents and visitors alike.
“Maryport Horizons will provide a focal point for development in the town, enabling the community to take real ownership of the town’s future.
“The board will support the formation of working groups, made up of community stakeholders, who will help plan and oversee a range of projects.”
Maryport Horizons is a community interest company, which means any profits will be reinvested in future improvements and attractions in the town.
It will also be able to apply for funding from a range of sources.
Volunteers who are interested in joining these working group are asked to email [email protected]
