The decision to stage the 2025 Pairs Championship at Northside has been well received by the Workington Comets management.

Promoter Andrew Bain said: “Once again we couldn’t be more proud to be selected to host such a prestigious event in the speedway calendar.”

“In our opening season we hosted the NDLRC,then last year we had the Ben Fund Bonanza, now we have the Pairs in 2025.

“It’s a fantastic opener to the season and also a phenomenal opportunity to showcase the fantastic racing we have week in – week out at Northside.”

Bain and co-promoter Steve Lawson have been in Tenerife for the British Speedway AGM with promoters/owners from each club in all three leagues involved in the prospective outlook for the 2025 British Speedway season.

Everyone connected with the sport was delighted that all participants from this year are gearing up for 2025.

The Comets last won the second tier Pairs Championship in 2012 when Adam Roynon and Rene Bach edged out the Scunthorpe Scorpions pairing of Josh Auty and John Jorgensen.

Daniel Nermark and Kauko Nieminen won it in 2008 while from 1999 to 2003 the Comets won it four out of the five times. Carl Stonehewer figured in all four triumphs, partnered by Brent Werner, Mick Powell, Peter Karlsson and Simon Stead.

Can the Comets make it lucky seven for the club on April 5 – what a way to start the new season?
