The annual gathering took place at the Animals in War memorial on Park Lane, London.
Angela Rippon was the guest of honour when over 30 wreaths were laid at the memorial by animal charities, groups and associations.
Workington’s Les Blacklock, the Royal Pigeon Racing Association president, was in attendance again with his wife Meryl and he said: “On a personal note, Meryl and myself were proud to attend the gathering on behalf of the association.
“This year’s event was particularly moving and I’d like to thank the Pet Plan Charitable Trust for organising the event.”

The turnout was excellent with horses from the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment also in attendance.
After the minute’s silence, several individuals were invited to speak and this year the presentations altered slightly. Several speakers highlighted the effect of war on animals and many of the speeches were very moving, Les said.

At the conclusion of the service Mike Armitage, from Pigeons in War, assisted by Angela, liberated two white pigeons.
