A South Lakeland tree has been named a national champion.
Holker Hall & Gardens was recently visited by tree measurement experts from The UK & Ireland Tree Register.
They declared its Metasequoia goldrush golden dawn redwood a national champion and it will now star in a Trees of Distinction Tree Trail, devised to celebrate National Tree Week this week.
National Tree Week marks the traditional start of the winter tree planting season.
Holker Hall & Gardens is joining in by planting 15 new trees this month and launching its first ever tree trail.

Holker’s head gardener Matthew Murgatroyd said: “We are very excited to be able to include our new national champion in our special Tree Trail which will be established ready for visitors to enjoy, from Saturday November 23.
“It will join nationally important trees like our great lime on the trail to create a journey of discovery and education within our award-winning gardens.
The Trees of Distinction Tree Trail at Holker Hall is a self-guided experience available to all visitors to the gardens on Saturday November 23, Sunday November 24 and Friday November 29 to Sunday December 1.
