Owen McCarron (Ben Challis)

Australian forward Owen McCarron, a stand-out player for Whitehaven last season has joined Halifax.

The 25-year-old picked up an award at the club’s end of season presentations for young player of the season.

He made the move to England for the 2024 season after playing in the Queensland Cup in 2023 as well as the local Brisbane competition.

An all-action second rower, who also was used at prop, McCarron has signed a one-year deal at the Shay.

He is among six new players that have just been revealed by the Pantherrs, who have also bid farewell to another six.

Of the new signings for 2025, outside back Charlie Graham will be most familiar to Fax fans  after scoring eleven tries in 16 appearances for them on loan from Keighley this year.

Unrelated Brad Graham, a backrower, has joined from Dewsbury, one of three to switch from the relegated Rams alongside prop Ronan Dixon and fullback or winger Owen Restall.

All four of the above have signed two-year deals while Sheffield halfback Jack Hansen has signed for three seasons and forward  McCarron for one season.
