Lifeline bus services have been restored for Millom and Haverigg.
Stagecoach axed the number 7 service recently, but has now reintroduced it, providing three journeys a day, Mondays to Saturdays, between Millom and Barrow.
A new route, the M1, will provide nine journeys on Mondays to Saturdays from Millom to Haverigg.
The new services to Millom and Haverigg are part of the first phase of a £2.5million package of bus improvements funded through Cumberland Council.
Before these changes Millom was the largest town in Cumbria, and quite possibly in England, without a regular bus service.
Tom Waterhouse, managing director of Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire, said: “We’re delighted to be able to restore services to Millom and Haverigg thanks to funding from Cumberland Council.
“With adult fares currently capped at just £2, bus travel is a fabulous bargain and I’d encourage local residents to try out the new services.”
Stagecoach has also introduced its winter timetable on services between Barrow and the Lake District.
This is an improved timetable on last year with up to eight buses a day, Mondays to Saturdays, on service 6 between Barrow and Windermere, and six on Sundays. All the Sunday buses and some weekday services continue to Kendal.
