An exhibition celebrating Cockermouth’s brewing history will be launched next week.
Cockermouth Heritage Group has been exploring the origins of brewing as a cottage industry in the town up to the closure of Jennings Brewery and the effect that has had on the local community.
The Taste of the Lake District exhibition will be on display at the town’s Kirkgate Centre from Friday December 6 to Monday December 16.

The exhibition launches the day before the start of the Taste Cumbria food festival on December 7 and December 8 and the Kirkgate bar will be open during exhibition hours on both days on Saturday from 11am to 4pm and Sunday from 11am to 1pm.
Helen Johnston, community projects officer, said: “It’s a great way to explore the history of brewing in Cockermouth and the leading role Jennings Brewery played in the town, both economically and socially.
“The exhibition has been curated by Charlotte Fairbairn, working with volunteers from the Cockermouth Heritage Group, and will be open every day between December 6 and 16 from 11am and 4pm, except Sunday, December 8, when it will close at 1pm.”
Entry to the exhibition is free and the Beer and Brewing in Cockermouth Project has been funded by the Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
