Carlisle racegoers had the pleasure of seeing the hugely expensive and highly-regarded Caldwell Potter make a winning start on his debut over fences on Sunday.
Caldwell Potter’s new connections, who include Sir Alex Ferguson, had to go to 740,000 euros to acquire the grey at the Caldwell Construction dispersal sale at Tattersalls Ireland in February.
The way he took the Myles Turns 30 Novices’ Chase at the Carlisle meeting suggests he has a bright future ahead of him.
Sent off the 2-11 favourite Paul Nicholls’ charges, ridden by stable jockey Harry Cobden, was always in front and travelled strongly, jumping really well, to go on and score by five comfortable lengths from Hombre De Guerra.
The performance brought reaction from bookmakers Paddy Power who immediately made the winner 25/1 (from 50s) for the Arkle at Cheltenham and 20/1 (from 25s) for the three-mile Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase.
