Free parking will be offered in council-run car parks in Kirkby Lonsdale until the end of the month.

The town is recovering from the blaze last Sunday, which claimed a man’s life. Main Street remains closed as buildings are structurally unsafe.

Westmorland & Furness Council said parking in New Road 1, New Road 2 and Market Square will be free to use until the end of December.

Supermarket Booths has also offered temporary unrestricted parking off Wellington Court, next to the A65 and before the Lunesdale Surgery – with the exception of the specified staff parking bays – this month with immediate effect.

The Booths main store car park remains one hour free with an option to purchase a second hour as normal.

People are reminded that Lunesdale Surgery parking is for patients of the doctor’s surgery only.

A community hub will be open tomorrow, Sunday December 14, at Kirkby Lonsdale Library and will then relocate to St Mary’s Church from Monday between 9am and 5pm until further notice.

People can use the hub to speak to council staff or community representatives if they have any issues, concerns or matters to raise.

Access to the Main Street for displaced businesses and residents will not be possible this weekend, said the council It added it will issue an update on Monday, but warned people access may not be possible until later in the week.
