A leading Cumbrian accountants has revealed the winner of a prize at a county school.

Lamont Pridmore sponsors the Economics & Business Prize at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School in Penrith, which this year has been awarded to Ben Ellis.

Despite facing significant challenges, including recovering from a serious injury in the summer of 2023, Ben achieved grade B in A-level economics.

Kate Judge, head of economics at QEGS, praised Ben’s resilience and active involvement.

He said: “Ben’s ability to persevere through adversity was remarkable. Even after missing a significant amount of school, he demonstrated unwavering dedication, contributing enthusiastically to class debates and group presentations.

“His success is a direct reflection of his hard work and character.”

Ben has since started an accountancy apprenticeship with Dodd & Co in Penrith.

Trevor Iredale, independent financial adviser at Lamont Pridmore, presented the award to Ben ahead of the QEGS A-level awards celebration last week.

Trevor said: “We congratulate Ben on this well-deserved recognition. His perseverance is truly inspiring, and we are delighted to celebrate his achievement.

“At Lamont Pridmore, we are committed to supporting the development of talented young people in our community, helping them overcome challenges and realise their full potential.

“Through our partnerships with Queen Elizabeth Grammar School and other local schools, we aim to inspire and develop the next generation of business and economics leaders, ensuring a bright future for the local professional services sector.”
